Grasses: Empire Zoysia
A new and improved variety of zoysiagrass, Empire has a wide blade - a little wider than meyer - about 5-7 mm. It can be used on home lawns, golf courses, commercial applications, and athletic fields.
Empire
has a soft feel, very good fall color retention and excellent spring greenup characteristics. It grows well in a variety of soils from sand, sandy loam, clay and muck, and of course dark loam soil. It grows medium rate at a horizontal angle from stolons and rhizomes. It has excellent traffic tolerance and excellent recovery ability.
We feel it has the best disease and insect resistance of any sod / grass type, as well as excellent heat and cold tolerance, moderate to good shade tolerance, and excellent drought tolerance. Empire tolerates salt well if you are on or near the coast. It has excellent / the best weed control probably because it is so thick. Use a standard rotary mower and mow the blades between 1-2 inches.
